One of the featured pieces in The Cullen's collection, this piece comes from the Ned Kelly series by Adam Cullen.
This work states explicitly Adam’s identification with his Irish heritage. The portrait of Ned Kelly is blazoned with the slogan “It’s always an Irishman” which refers to the injustices the artist believes to have been played against the Irish in the early history of Australia. Note here the text along the left hand side of the canvas. Many of Cullen’s earlier paintings combined text in the works, yet this is one of only few in the Cullen Hotel which combine text on the surface of the painting.
The original artwork was created by Cullen in 2008. Please note, this is an unsigned and unlimited Cullen print.
