Michael Johnson works predominantly within a format of pronounced horizontal bands of colour. This painting marks a decisive return to the hard-edged geometric lines to be found in his work from the 1960s and the 1980s. The title refers to the spectacular natural phenomenon of the Northern Lights, a vivid display in the night sky caused by collisions between electrically charged particles. Coined by Galileo in the 17th century, the term references Aurora, the Roman goddess of dawn, and Boreas, the Greek name for the north wind.
This piece is a digital archival fine art limited edition.
