This painting refers to the stolen horse which Isaiah “Wild” Wright entrusted to Ned Kelly. The incident cost Ned Kelly three years in prison. This is Cullen at his mischievous best; the artist has clearly delighted in adorning the horse with boots, a decorated blanket and a vivid shade of eye shadow.
